Job Title: Material Development Engineer

Location: Mid Kent

Our client, a well-respected family business, are looking for an experienced Material Development Engineer to help drive and deliver new ideas into their existing and new product ranges.

Duties include:

• Researching and testing both technical materials and fabrics, and sustainable materials and fabrics.
• Evaluating materials' suitability for live New Product Development furniture projects.
• Researching new suppliers, manufacturers, and processes.
• Managing materials-based projects, including new product launches.
• Working effectively and collaboratively across multiple projects and cross-functional teams simultaneously, both internally and externally.

The successful candidate will have:

• Qualification to degree level in a relevant subject, such as Materials/ Design Engineering/ Industrial Design.
• Experience in materials research and development, with a solid understanding of raw materials, including fabrics, coated fabrics, polymers, advanced composites, fire retardants and finishing processes.
• Experience in furniture design and manufacture.
• A collaborative, entrepreneurial, pro-active approach.
• Great verbal and written communication skills.
• Passion for sustainability.
• Strong research presentation and Excel skills.
