Assistant Buyer

Fantastic opportunity to join an established FMCG business as an Assistant Buying Manager with a view to progression through to Buying Manager. The purpose of this role is to support the strategic management of commodity purchases as well as other goods and services through effective planning, supplier management and negotiation. This is a highly analytical position requiring the ability to monitor a range of metrics and insights in order to effectively identify the most profitable actions to take.

Duties include:

  • Provide timely and accurate information / data to support the development of the procurement strategy.
  • Negotiate prices for the supply of goods and services, ensuring best value for money
  • Manage and develop supplier relationships and ongoing negotiations.
  • Track / assess customer profitability.
  • Advise the business on product costs.
  • Monitor stock levels, order progressions and usage to ensure material is available when required.
  • Support storage planning and third party raw material warehousing.
  • Provide analytic analysis, including cashflow, currency exposure etc.
  • Assess the risks and benefits of terms and conditions, advising the Business.
  • Other projects and such tasks as and when required.

To be successful, you will be/have:

  • A degree at 1:1 level in an analytical or mathematical related degree
  • A desire to develop a career as a Buyer
  • Strong Excel skills
  • Flexible, reliable and ambitious
  • Commercially astute, with the ability to analyse, find and present solutions.
  • An excellent communicator with first rate interpersonal skills
